What is SOAR SWIM & STEM all about?
THE MISSION
SOAR SWIM & STEM serves to enlighten, engage and empower underserved and underrepresented students in Grades 2-5 with a solid foundation for success, providing critical, life-long skills and experiences to help them
SOAR: Travel to experience learning hands-on outside of the traditional classroom
SWIM: Learn the basics of swimming, water safety and CPR
STEM: Exercise and hone the skills required for confidence, interest and long-term success in STEM-related subjects and careers.
THE VISION
Upon matriculation from elementary school, 5th grade students that participate in SS&S will have…
~ Expanded their mindset by having explored and learned about the world outside of the city
~ Learned life-saving skills in and outside of the water to help lessen the likelihood and number of drowning deaths amongst minority children
~ Acquired and honed the foundational skills necessary to improve test scores, grades and success in Math and Science through college, helping to increase the interest and representation of minorities in STEM degrees and career fields
